Do you know how wages in crane, rigging and specialized transportation compare to other industries? More or less?
From the 2023 State of the Workforce Research Report: For all occupations: For those with Less than a high school degree compensation is an average of $15.65/hr and for a high school degree it's $20.23/hr.
But when you look at the Skilled trades: Construction equipment operators are $26.87/hr, electricians are $30.44/hr, welders are $23.21/hr, or heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers $24.20/hr.

Over the past three decades the SC&RF has invested nearly $700,000 in research. But we can't proivde valuable reports without your data. The 2024 survey is anonymous and requiires at least 100 respondants to release the 2024 State of the Workforce report. The last data colelction in 2021 provided a good benchmark and we expect this report to reveal even more areas to be evaluated. The SC&RF (Specialized Carriers & Rigging Foundation) is awarding two recipients the Company Training (CT) Grant. Join us in congratulating Wilkerson Crane Rental who will receive $5,000 toward Goldhofer training for 5 individuals and Select Crane Rental who will receive $2,500 toward training for two individuals who will be attending Tadano Technician training for All-Terrain Cranes.

 The total allocation for 2023 is $20,000 and to date, $17,300 has been awarded in Company Training Grants.

The award offers financial assistance to ease the burden on companies who are training multiple employees. If you have employees who need training or certification, such as, OSHA, mechanical, rigging or safety— you are encouraged to apply for a grant for financial assistance with the SC&RF. 
 
Applications are open to SC&RA member companies only as an exclusive benefit and are also intended for the training of 2+ employees. The training could include mechanics, welding, rigging, project management, software training (new systems), driver school or crane operator certification.

In 2020, the Lift & Move USA program was known for its live events nationwide. The events were a vehicle to bring together the community and raise industry awareness for career opportunities in crane, rigging, and specialized transport.  With the loss of funding and inability to hold live events - Lift & Move as a program has evolved. The Workforce Ambassadors are now the vehicle for raising awareness in their community. This could still be with a live event but could also be through internships, career fairs, or working side-by-side with educators.

Morrow Equipment Awards for training through the SC&RF Partner In Education program now include transportation expenses as part of the award. If you are interested in the Tower Crane Safety and Inspection course or the Tower Crane NCCCO Certification course - you may apply through the Vo/Tech Scholarship application to be considered for a scholarship awarding 100% tuition. The next deadline to apply is June 30. You may apply now for training in the Fall or winter 2023.  If you have employees who would benefit from this training - encourage them to plan now and capitalize on this opportunity for free tuition and paid travel expenses.

The SC&RF Committees meet April 17 in conjunction with the SC&RA Annual Conference. All attendees are welcome to attend and learn more about scholarships, research, and workforce development initiatives.

Grants Available for Training!

Now there is a grant for companies to train multiple employees. If your company is sending mechanics to training, updating certificates or regularly bringing in trainers to conduct classes - this grant is for you!  The Company Training Grant helps to ease the financial burden of training new employees and maintaining skills of existing employees. The SC&RF (Specialized Carriers & Rigging Foundation), a nonprofit organization serving the crane, rigging, and specialized transport industry, supports workforce development, provides educational assistance, and conducts research to advance growth and opportunities within the industry. 

The Foundation provides up to $50,000 annually in scholarships and grants to individuals pursuing a 4-year degree, masters or non-traditional courses like welding, mechanics, crane operator etc. 

Through their Partners in Education and Certification program the Foundation is able to offer more than $1500,000 in online and in-person courses and certifications with ATS, CICB, ITI, Morrow Equipment Company and NCCCO.

Lift & Move USA events are managed and overseen by a Governing Committee under the SC&RF. They introduce high school students to opportunities in the industry and funds industry-specific research to help the Association (SC&RA) advocate on behalf of members.
