Liebherr’s Mobile Construction Cranes Embrace Eco-Friendly Alternatives READ YOUR FREE COPY HERE: https://moveitmagazine.com/2023/11/14/liebherrs-mobile-construction-cranes-embrace-eco-friendly-alternatives/ Liebherr’s mobile construction cranes are breaking away from diesel reliance. These versatile taxi cranes, known for their quick setup and operation with just one person, now have the capability to use HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oils) as an alternative fuel for travel between sites. The fossil-free HVO can power both the superstructure and undercarriage. In addition to HVO, these cranes can operate in electric mode using on-site electricity instead of diesel, promoting zero emissions and minimal noise. This feature is advantageous for work in residential areas or on night-time construction sites. The use of on-site power significantly reduces operating costs, amounting to only 10 percent of the expenses associated with diesel engine use over a year. Liebherr’s mobile battery-based energy storage system, Liduro Power Port (LPO), steps in when on-site power is insufficient or unavailable. This allows for the operation and charging of hybrid or all-electric construction machines locally with zero emissions. A diesel-powered generator is also available as an option. Notably, Liebherr’s cranes can be powered by HVO derived from hydrotreated vegetable oils, sourced from food industry waste, without using palm oil. This alternative fuel not only reduces exhaust gases but also contributes to limiting global greenhouse gas emissions, while remaining fully compatible with all engine components. #Liebherr #Electric #MoveItMagazine

Mammoet Welcomes First Electric Liebherr Mobile Crane READ YOUR FREE COPY HERE: https://moveitmagazine.com/2023/10/13/mammoet-welcomes-first-electric-liebherr-mobile-crane/ Mammoet has welcomed the arrival of its first electric Liebherr mobile crane, the LTC 1050-3.1E. This innovative crane features both an electric motor and a traditional drive system, providing the option to carry out crane movements using electricity. This contributes significantly to reducing carbon emissions and aligns with the demand for “zero emission” construction sites. The LTC 1050-3.1E marks the inaugural electrically powered hydraulic crane in Mammoet’s extensive fleet. Peter van Oostrom, Director Global Projects and Assets at Mammoet, sheds light on their decision to opt for this 50-ton crane: “Cranes in the 50-ton range are ideal for testing innovative technologies, as they are constantly in operation for Mammoet. This allows us to introduce these new technologies to a broad customer base, testing their practicality for everyday industrial use.” As a heavyweight in the crane and heavy lifting industry, Mammoet places a strong emphasis on sustainability and cutting-edge technologies. Van Oostrom affirms their commitment, saying, “We are dedicated to spearheading the industry’s adoption of groundbreaking technologies that reduce the environmental impact of heavy lifting projects.” To this end, Mammoet has developed various eco-friendly solutions, such as the world’s first electric modular self-propelled transporter and the SK electric crane series. Contract officially signed at Bauma 2022: (F.l.t.r.) Peter van Oostrom (Mammoet), Dr. Ulrich Hamme (Liebherr-Werk Ehingen GmbH), Han Rekers (Liebherr-Nederland B.V.), Jan Kleijn (Mammoet), Hermen Kamp (Mammoet) One key feature Mammoet highlights is the compactness of the LTC 1050-3.1, offering flexibility for projects in confined spaces, especially indoor environments where zero emissions and reduced noise during electric operation are crucial. Mammoet equipped the crane with Liebherr RemoteDrive for precise remote control in tight conditions. The electric LTC 1050-3.1 offers a compelling blend of environmental friendliness, customer benefits, and efficiency. On the road, it is powered by a low-emission combustion engine meeting exhaust emission stage 5 standards, providing 243 kW (326 hp). This engine can be fueled with hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO), reducing CO2 emissions by up to 90% compared to pure diesel. During crane operations, operators can choose between the combustion engine and the electric motor based on the specific operating conditions. The newly developed electric motor offers 72 kW, delivering nearly the same performance as the 6-cylinder engine. The electric model includes the electric motor, a transfer case, and necessary control technology. This intelligent yet straightforward solution facilitates seamless transitions between diesel-hydraulic and electro-hydraulic drive. While full performance requires 125 amps of site power, practical operation is possible with 63 amps. Additionally, the crane can be operated using an external “battery pack,” like the Liebherr energy storage system Liduro Power Port (LPO), if the construction site lacks the necessary electrical infrastructure. #Mammoet #ElectricCrane #Liebherr #LTC1050-3.1E #MoveItMagazine

Swiss Wind Power Gets A Lift With Liebherr Cranes READ YOUR FREE COPY HERE: https://moveitmagazine.com/2023/09/28/swiss-wind-power-gets-a-lift-with-liebherr-cranes/ Wind energy in Switzerland accounts for a small fraction of the nation’s energy mix, contributing just 0.25% of the total electricity production, primarily dominated by hydropower. However, recent developments in the Jura mountain range in the canton of Vaud, near the French border, have added six new wind turbines to the landscape. These turbines, boasting a combined output of 13.8 MWh, were installed during the summer months using cutting-edge equipment from Liebherr, a renowned crane manufacturer. Emil Egger AG, a crane company, deployed its two most powerful hoisting units, the LR 1700-1.0 and the LR 11000, to navigate the challenging terrain at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters. The heaviest lifts occurred during the installation of the generators, with the LR 11000 handling a massive 71-tonne load, including the hook block and slings. To tackle the towering assembly heights of around 100 meters, a 114-meter-long main boom was fitted to the crane. While the rotor components were visually striking, they weighed slightly less than the generators, totaling 65 tonnes. Specialized equipment was used to maneuver the 40-meter-long rotor blades into a vertical position during the lifting process. Meanwhile, the LR 1700-1.0 worked on erecting other wind turbines nearby, featuring a 99-meter main boom and a 12-meter jib set at a ten-degree angle to ensure ample lifting height. Emphasizing the choice of Liebherr equipment, Managing Director Michael Egger noted, “All the crawler cranes in our fleet are from Liebherr. We rely completely on the Liebherr brand for crawler crane technology because these modern machines are extremely practical and user-friendly. The machines are simply ‘state of the art,’ and Liebherr’s service leaves little to be desired.” Emphasizing their satisfaction with Liebherr’s support, Egger added, “If we have a major problem with our equipment, a mechanic is on-site within two hours. And that’s worth a lot.“ #Liebherr #LR1700-1.0 #Cranes #EmilEggerAG #MoveItMagazine

By employing similar design principles and lifting techniques, the SK6000 provides customers with continuity and peace of mind. The SK6000 is containerized, allowing for swift mobilization and on-site assembly, providing ultra-heavy lift capacity wherever it is needed. It has been designed with next-generation offshore wind farms in mind and will serve all global energy markets where additional lifting capacity is needed, both onshore and at sea. The crane will play a crucial role in the offshore wind industry, enabling the integration of higher and bigger turbines, as well as launching heavier foundations. In the conventional energy sector, the SK6000 will reduce integration time for offshore and floating production projects by building even larger topside modules. On land, it will help refineries reduce downtime by removing and installing larger components with minimum disruption. #Mammoet #SK6000 #ringcrane #MoveItMagazine

Liebherr Mobile Cranes Used For Wind Power Line Construction READ YOUR FREE COPY HERE: https://moveitmagazine.com/2023/04/24/liebherr-mobile-cranes-used-for-wind-power/ The success of Germany’s energy transition and the shift towards renewable energy depends heavily on the transport of wind power from coastal regions to the south of the country. To achieve this goal, new, high-performance power lines are essential. The largest project currently underway is the “Wahle-Mecklar” extra-high voltage line through Lower Saxony and Hesse, which is being realized with Liebherr mobile cranes from Albert Regel GmbH and other companies. The “Wahle-Mecklar” project involves the construction of 555 electricity pylons over a distance of 230 kilometers, with only a small part of the route bridged with underground cables. This new power line is scheduled for completion in 2024, after four years of construction. Several Liebherr mobile cranes, including Regel’s LTM 1230-5.1 and LTM 1070-4.2, are being used to erect the pylons, which are up to 90 meters high. According to Daniel Stawizki, a dispatcher at Regel, the LTM 1230-5.1 is the crane of choice for mast construction, with its 75-meter telescopic boom. It can manage almost all of these jobs without the aid of a jib, except for the largest of the pylons, for which a 32-meter fixed jib is used. For these larger pylons, Regel has also used their 300-tonne LTM. Regel’s LTM 1070-4.2 is used to handle the individual lattice tower elements on the ground and to help assemble the components with the larger mobile crane. This compact 70-tonne mobile crane can carry most of its ballast on the road and is equipped with active and speed-dependent rear-axle steering, making it ideal for working in difficult terrain and reaching work sites quickly. Regel has been providing cranes for the construction sites of the grid operator Tennet for the past three years, and according to Stawizki, they have already erected well over a hundred of the electricity pylons. If everything works out, the completed lattice tower will be up within a day in the evening. Regel has also used their LTM 1200-5.1 and LTM 1090-4.2 as a team on the construction sites along the route. At their headquarters in Baunatal, Regel operates around 40 mobile cranes together with a depot near Fulda. With the exception of five machines, they all come from the Liebherr factory in Ehingen. In addition to crane work, Albert Regel GmbH also offers heavy transport as well as machine and industrial relocations. Overall, the success of the “Wahle-Mecklar” project is vital to Germany’s energy transition and the transformation towards renewable energies. The use of high-performance power lines and modern, efficient mobile cranes is essential to ensuring the success of this project and achieving the country’s ambitious renewable energy goals. # Wahle-Mecklar #Liebherr #cranes #MoveItMagazine

New Record Turnover Achieved By Liebherr In 2022 READ YOUR FREE COPY HERE: https://moveitmagazine.com/2023/04/04/record-turnover-by-liebherr-in-2022/ Liebherr Group, that operates in 13 product segments, announced a record turnover of €12,589 million in 2022, up €950 million, or 8.2%, from the previous year. Despite the challenging economic environment due to the coronavirus pandemic, Liebherr’s turnover increased in 10 of its 13 product segments. The seven product segments of earthmoving, material handling technology, deep foundation machines, mobile and crawler cranes, tower cranes, concrete technology, and mining reported a turnover of €8,561 million, 6.9% higher than the previous year. The six product segments of maritime cranes, aerospace and transportation systems, gear technology and automation systems, refrigerators and freezers, components, and hotels achieved a total turnover of €4,028 million, an increase of 11% over the previous year. Turnover increased slightly in the European Union, Liebherr’s strongest sales region, and grew strongly in North America, Central, and South America, Africa, and the Near and Middle East. However, the Liebherr Group achieved a net income of only €2 million in 2022, down from the previous year. The company invested €588 million in research and development, the majority of which was used to develop new products, including those using alternative drive technologies, such as hydrogenated vegetable oils (HVO), which can be used directly in Liebherr’s construction machinery, cranes, and mining machines. In the field of electric drives, Liebherr added six new models to its Unplugged range of battery-powered, locally emission-free crawler cranes, piling, and drilling rigs up to 400 tonnes. The Group also invested €863 million in its production sites and global distribution and service networks to expand its sales and service activities, among other things. #LiebherrGroup #newrecord #MoveItMagazine

Family Business Acquires Nine New Liebherr Cranes READ YOUR FREE COPY HERE: https://moveitmagazine.com/2023/03/02/next-generation-of-wiesbauer-family-business-acquires-nine-new-liebherr-cranes/ Wiesbauer GmbH & Co.KG has expanded its crawler crane fleet by acquiring a Liebherr LR 1700-1.0. In December, the new 700-tonne crane successfully completed its first operation in Marbach am Neckar, demonstrating its capabilities. “As we already have a 650-tonne and a 1,000-tonne crawler crane in our fleet, the LR 1700-1.0 is the ideal addition to the mid-range of our crawler crane portfolio,” explains Marco Wilhelm, authorised signatory and head of technology at Wiesbauer. The LR 1700-1.0 was produced for the assembly of wind turbines as well as for use in infrastructure and industrial projects. Wiesbauer deployed the new LR 1700-1.0 crane with its state-of-the-art derrick system during its initial operation. The V-frame ballasting system, which is a hydraulic foldable frame, was used to adjust the ballast radius of the crane from 13 to 21 meters. This system eliminates the need for a fixed ballast guide for large radii, providing infinite adjustability. During the construction of an electrical power plant in Marbach am Neckar, the LR 1700-1.0 lifted a 230-tonne transformer off a ship. In late December, Wiesbauer placed an order for additional cranes from Liebherr, consisting of two LTM 1070-4.2s, two LTM 1090-4.2s, two LTF 1060-4.1s, one LTM 1300-6.3, and one LTM 1650-8.1. This investment is intended to revitalize Wiesbauer’s fleet and, in certain instances, increase its capacity. “Through these new purchases and when making our purchasing decision, we placed great emphasis on the fact that all the counterweight plates on the smaller cranes and the booms on the larger cranes can be easily and quickly dismantled in order to achieve lighter driving conditions for the cranes, as the topic of vehicle weight, axle load and driving permits is becoming increasingly controversial throughout Germany,” explains the Wiesbauer team. After the unexpected and sorrowful passing of Thomas Wiesbauer in April of the previous year, the Wiesbauer family business is now jointly led by its third and fourth generations. Sissy and Florian Wiesbauer, fourth-generation family members, have taken charge of the operational management and collaborate closely with Sabine and Jochen Wiesbauer. Wiesbauer GmbH & Co.KG, situated in southern Germany, is a significant provider of crane and heavy haulage logistics services with approximately 90 cranes and a workforce of 180. #LiebherrLR1700-1.0 #WiesbauerGmbH #MoveItMagazine

NessCampbell Crane + Rigging offers a variety of cranes, but our Spyder Cranes are next level. With the ability to operate in tight spaces, indoors, a 360-degree rotation, and a diesel/electric engine for maximum flexibility. On this particular job in Kent WA, our URW547CU 4 Ton Spyder Crane was set up on the sidewalk off the road. A great option to use instead of a Boom Truck Crane that would take up room on the street. We used our Spyder crane to set glass panels for another satisfied customer. Whatever your job, NessCampbell Crane + Rigging has the Crane for you! INDIAN PORT OPERATOR REDUCES LOCAL CARBON EMISSIONS WITH KONECRANES READ YOUR FREE COPY HERE: https://moveitmagazine.com/2022/12/08/indian-port-operator-reduces-local-carbon-emissions-with-konecranes/ Bothra Shipping has placed and order for three all-electric Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor Cranes for their bulk terminals at the Port of Kakinada, on the central eastern coast of India. The order was booked in September 2022 and the eco-efficient cranes will be delivered in the second quarter of 2023. The three new cranes are Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7B Mobile Harbor Cranes, with a working radius of 51 m and a capacity of 125 t. The berths associated with the terminals in Kakinada Seaport are well-equipped with high-tension electrical points, to which these cranes can be connected. The cranes rely on an external power supply without an onboard diesel generator set. This drive system enables higher efficiency and lowers operational costs while simultaneously reducing noise and exhaust emissions. The cranes feature a four-rope hoist system that gives them a 63 t grab load curve for high bulk handling rates. In cooperation with Konecranes India, Bothra Shipping will receive on-site technical support as they integrate the cranes into their operations. “As we looked at ways to develop our terminals, Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor Cranes offered us the best available combination of outstanding performance with less noise and no local exhaust. This is our first equipment from Konecranes, and we are keen to see how it raises our productivity and overall eco-efficiency,” said Ajit Bothra, owner of Bothra Group. The Bothra Group of companies are international logistics service providers based in India. Its subsidiary Bothra Shipping is a major Indian port operator, delivering end-to-end customized solutions for a wide range of cargo. Bothra Group of companies owns and operates an 8 million metric tons per annum mechanized coal handling terminal (Kakinada Deep Water Port Coal Terminal) and a 6 million metric tons per annum fertilizer handling terminal (Kakinada Deep Water Port Fertilizer Terminal). With the new Generation 6 cranes it aims to increase bulk handling rate at the terminals, while reducing local carbon emissions and increasing operational performance. #Bothra #KoneCranes #Gottwald #MobileHarborCrane #India #MoveItMagazine

ZERO-EMISSION LIFTING WITH E-PACK READ YOUR FREE COPY HERE: https://moveitmagazine.com/2022/11/30/zero-emission-lifting-with-e-pack/ Neuwied-based heavy transport company Hack Schwerlastservice has relied on Tadano’s AC 3.045-1 City with the E-Pack to shift heavy equipment at Hitachi Energy Germany AG’s plant in Bad Honnef. “Without the E-Pack for the AC 3.045-1 City we wouldn’t have had a hope of getting this job done,” said Udo Hack, managing director of Hack Schwerlastservice. On arrival at the plant location, the Hack team transported the E-Pack directly into the hall using an electric lift truck. Moving the AC 3.045 City-1 into position in the cleanroom hall was somewhat more complicated, as the most direct route was too tight, so the crane had to make a detour through the adjoining hall. The gates to the hall were barely three-meters wide, and inside there was very little room to maneuver, but neither of these constraints was a problem for the Tadano City crane with its ultra-compact design. On-site setup was very quick, with the entire process from start to finish, including connection of the E-Pack, taking just 30 minutes. “The customer originally wanted us to fit the AC 3.045-1 City with a runner, but in the end the compact overall height of the hook block meant we didn’t need to,” says Udo Hack. The crane had to be set up in a corner of the hall, the tight space constraints meant there were no other options, it had to telescope in and out for every lift. “As a result, some of the components we had to lift, pipes and concrete parts weighing up to 12 tonnes, exceeded the crane’s lifting capacity,” said Herbert Schellberg, a project manager at Hack. To remedy this, some of the components had to be dismantled prior to lifting so as to reduce their weight. “With their Tadano crane and its absolutely ingenious E-Pack, the Hack team did a fantastic job. We were most impressed that they could operate a crane electrically and hence without emissions and still get such great performance out of it,” said Frank Urfey, the industrial engineering manager at Hitachi Energy Germany. #ZeroEmission #Lift #Lifting #Tadano #CityCrane #EPack #MoveItMagazine

22ND NOVEMBER 2022 GE RENEWABLE SELECTS MAMMOET UK READ YOUR FREE COPY HERE: https://moveitmagazine.com/2022/11/22/ge-renewable-selects-mammoet-uk/ Teesside-based Mammoet UK has been selected by GE Renewable Energy to supply onshore heavy lifting and transport for the staging and assembly of turbine components for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm. Dogger Bank Wind Farm is a joint venture between SSE Renewables, Equinor and Vårgrønn. Mammoet will employ multiple lifting and transport crews for simultaneous operations to support with the loading of equipment and tower assembly in the marshalling harbor, a key piece in constructing the project. The team will utilize cranes and self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) axles at Able Seaton Port, the Dogger Bank Wind Farm marshalling harbor. GE will start preparing the marshalling harbor and receiving components at the end of 2022. Nathan Fahey, GE Project Director for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, said, “We are delighted to announce that we have selected Mammoet UK as our cranes and logistics supplier for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm. The cranes and associated equipment the company will provide and operate for us will be essential to the smooth operation of our marshalling harbor on Teesside, where 277 sets of blades, nacelles and towers of our Haliade-X wind turbines will be erected and transit over the course of the project. We believe Mammoet has the right expertise and equipment to be an excellent partner for us.” Darren Adams, Mammoet’s Group Commercial Officer, said, “Mammoet is delighted to work in close partnership with GE to help build the world’s largest offshore wind farm. The project is a large step towards a net-zero future, delivering a boost for the local economy and wider 2030 and 2050 emissions targets. By utilizing Mammoet’s strong presence in the UK, headquartered from Teesside, backed up by its network of international engineering hubs, we will enable the delivery of clean, cost-efficient energy to around six million homes.” Dogger Bank Wind Farm is located over 130 km off the north-east coast of England and each phase will be able to produce 6TWh of renewable electricity, totaling 18TWh annually, when complete in 2026 – equivalent to powering approximately the equivalent of six million UK homes each year or around 5% of the UK’s electricity demand.
