The meticulous planning of the crane positions was crucial, as the 90-degree rotation and placement had to be executed in a single operation. The relatively new LTM 1650-8.1 crane, equipped with a 45.3-meter boom, a 17.5-meter radius, and 180 tonnes of ballast, played a central role in the nighttime construction. The LTM 1300-6.3 crane, ballasted with 94 tonnes, had a 29.4-meter boom and a 15.3-meter radius. Both cranes were operated by experienced professionals who demonstrated exceptional precision during the challenging slewing process, with the massive steel girders passing just centimeters from the cranes’ luffing cylinders. The entire operation took place over a weekend, benefiting from good weather and minimal wind conditions. Tandem lifts are not only impressive but also complex to plan. One of the key challenges was that the project site wasn’t suitable for cranes larger than the CC8800. In response, Sarens devised an engineering solution that utilized the CC8800-1 with a boom booster. In total, Sarens managed to lift 41 heavy units, including impressive components such as a 700-tonne, 22-meter oxidation reactor, a 700-tonne, 52-meter rectification column, and five 350-tonne, 52-meter silos. Installing each silo involved the CC8800-1 crawling approximately 100 meters before lifting in conjunction with the LR1750. The equipment was transported from Germany in just eight days, although customs clearance added another 26 days to the timeline. Subsequently, it was efficiently moved to the job site within three days and assembled in a mere 18 days. Transporting the primary crane necessitated the use of 100 trailers between the port and the job site, while 12 jib sections were delivered via 12 trailers from Croatia. Despite facing challenges such as a devastating earthquake, strong winds, and heavy rainfall that caused work delays, the Sarens team successfully completed the demanding lifts. Over the course of two days, using an MI-8T helicopter with a lifting capacity of three tonnes, the crane components, including tower sections, jib, and counter jib, were carefully transported from a temporary storage location near the Danube to the construction site, flying over the city’s rooftops. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Tradler-Baumaschinen and Liebherr, a suitable solution was devised to ensure the smooth operation of a top-slewing crane at the church site. The primary concern revolved around the unstable ground caused by the adjacent cemetery. Furthermore, due to the constraints imposed by the cemetery, the crane and its substructure could only be positioned on the pathways between the graves. Overcoming this dilemma required an innovative approach. The solution involved the utilization of a gantry, a steel construction that provided unrestricted access beneath the crane. A concrete foundation with cement grout-injected micropiles was established, upon which a 6 x 6 meter gantry was placed. These micropiles, with a diameter of less than 30 centimeters, enabled the use of smaller and lighter drilling equipment. The paths were the only areas where foundations were set, ensuring the preservation of the graves. Subsequently, a mobile crane mounted a 250 EC-B flat-top crane with a 21 HC tower system and undercarriage onto the gantry. This configuration offered stability to the crane and allowed it to operate effectively above the graves. To achieve this goal, new, high-performance power lines are essential. The largest project currently underway is the “Wahle-Mecklar” extra-high voltage line through Lower Saxony and Hesse, which is being realized with Liebherr mobile cranes from Albert Regel GmbH and other companies. The “Wahle-Mecklar” project involves the construction of 555 electricity pylons over a distance of 230 kilometers, with only a small part of the route bridged with underground cables. This new power line is scheduled for completion in 2024, after four years of construction. Several Liebherr mobile cranes, including Regel’s LTM 1230-5.1 and LTM 1070-4.2, are being used to erect the pylons, which are up to 90 meters high. According to Daniel Stawizki, a dispatcher at Regel, the LTM 1230-5.1 is the crane of choice for mast construction, with its 75-meter telescopic boom. It can manage almost all of these jobs without the aid of a jib, except for the largest of the pylons, for which a 32-meter fixed jib is used. For these larger pylons, Regel has also used their 300-tonne LTM. Regel’s LTM 1070-4.2 is used to handle the individual lattice tower elements on the ground and to help assemble the components with the larger mobile crane. This compact 70-tonne mobile crane can carry most of its ballast on the road and is equipped with active and speed-dependent rear-axle steering, making it ideal for working in difficult terrain and reaching work sites quickly. Regel has been providing cranes for the construction sites of the grid operator Tennet for the past three years, and according to Stawizki, they have already erected well over a hundred of the electricity pylons. If everything works out, the completed lattice tower will be up within a day in the evening. Regel has also used their LTM 1200-5.1 and LTM 1090-4.2 as a team on the construction sites along the route. At their headquarters in Baunatal, Regel operates around 40 mobile cranes together with a depot near Fulda. With the exception of five machines, they all come from the Liebherr factory in Ehingen. The cranes, rented from Skyliners S.à R.L. rental fleet, are moving building materials just a few meters from the airport’s apron to the construction site. The machines in use are Liebherr’s 172 EC-B 8, two 202 EC-B 10, one 285 EC-B 12, and three 250 EC-B 12 cranes, with jib lengths of 40, 45, 50, and 55 meters, respectively. All of them have aircraft warning paintwork and a maximum lifting capacity of up to twelve tonnes, depending on the model. The highest tower cranes on the construction site are a 250 EC-B 12 and a 285 EC-B 12, with a hook height of 69 meters. The lowest one, another 250 EC-B 12, has a hook height of 50.4 meters. Thanks to their flexible adaptation to site conditions, the jib and tower elements in the EC-B series allow several cranes to work together in tight spaces without any issues. The cranes are equipped with assistance systems, such as the Micromove fine positioning mode, the Load-Plus short-term load increase function, and the ABB operating range limitation system, which increase handling performance, reliability, and safety. Since the first crane was erected in December 2020, the Liebherr machines have been efficiently supporting structural work. The Skypark Business Center will offer approximately 100,000 square meters of space for restaurants, retail, fitness facilities, hotels, offices, and a kindergarten upon its completion in late 2023/early 2024. It is the first milestone for Airport City, a large-scale development project around Luxembourg Airport. These cranes, capable of handling up to 26 container rows on a ship, were constructed by ZPMC and join the existing fleet of 10 cranes at the DP World terminal located on the eastern side of the Deurganck dock. The investment in these new cranes is part of DP World’s €200 million plan to modernise, expand and make the terminal more sustainable, which was initiated in 2019 and supported by the European Commission. The ultimate goal is to offer customers efficient, resilient and sustainable solutions. Dirk Van den Bosch, CEO of DP World Antwerp Gateway, expressed his belief in Antwerp’s position as a global trade hub and gateway to Europe, and the company’s commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of the port and making it the engine of the Belgian economy. Rolling one crane from the ship to the rail tracks on the dock side takes approximately four to six hours via a special footbridge. The unloading process is precarious and must be done in perfect conditions such as weather, visibility, wind and water level, and takes about a week. After this, the cranes will be connected to the high voltage grid, the movements will be adjusted, and the container registration system will be installed to commission the cranes by the summer. The crane park at DP World Antwerp Gateway is capable of handling the largest container ships in the world, which can transport up to 24,000 containers (TEU). The latest cranes can handle up to 26 container rows on a ship, which is one row more than the current generation of container vessels. The crane had an 80-metre telescopic boom and Y-guying, which made it capable of handling individual components weighing up to 122 tonnes. The port, which is the third largest in France on the Mediterranean, handles a variety of goods such as wheat, fertiliser, coal, and oil. Three modern Liebherr mobile port cranes, including one LHM 280 and two LHM 420 models, now handle bulk and general cargo, rendering the ageing double jib crane over 30 metres in height obsolete. The port authority commissioned Foselev SA, a nationwide rental company employing over 2,500 people with a fleet of 920 vehicles, including a large number of Liebherr mobile cranes, to complete the task. Its Foselev Sud Ouest outlet based in Port-La-Nouvelle coordinated the operation. The LTM 1650-8.1, Foselev’s most powerful telescopic crane, was selected for the complex job, and its T5Y configuration made it perfect for dismantling the crane components. The crane’s 80-metre telescopic boom and Y-guying demonstrated their strengths during the job, and the heaviest single component, the counterweight of the double jib crane, weighed 122 tonnes. The job was completed on schedule at the end of February 2023, satisfying the port authority. The Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 mobile crane delivers top lifting capacities on eight axles with telescopic boom lengths of 54 or optionally 80 metres. With lattice extensions, it can achieve lifting heights of up to 152 metres and radii of up to 112 metres. Thierry Volatier from the relevant Foselev outlet, which coordinated the crane job, commented: “To achieve the low support pressure of 6 t/sq m required by the port authority, we had to reduce the surface pressure, so a 21 sq m support plate was placed under each of the four outriggers of the LTM 1650-8.1. The six product segments of maritime cranes, aerospace and transportation systems, gear technology and automation systems, refrigerators and freezers, components, and hotels achieved a total turnover of €4,028 million, an increase of 11% over the previous year. Turnover increased slightly in the European Union, Liebherr’s strongest sales region, and grew strongly in North America, Central, and South America, Africa, and the Near and Middle East. However, the Liebherr Group achieved a net income of only €2 million in 2022, down from the previous year. The tilt-up panels being lifted on the construction site in Atlanta are manufactured on-site, making Full Tilt Crane Services and Martin Concrete Construction a one-stop-shop for tilt-up projects. The largest panel being lifted has a height of around 34 meters, making it impossible to produce using precast methods. The advantage of producing the panels on-site is that it makes them more flexible than precast elements, giving customers greater flexibility in their designs. In December, the new 700-tonne crane successfully completed its first operation in Marbach am Neckar, demonstrating its capabilities. “As we already have a 650-tonne and a 1,000-tonne crawler crane in our fleet, the LR 1700-1.0 is the ideal addition to the mid-range of our crawler crane portfolio,” explains Marco Wilhelm, authorised signatory and head of technology at Wiesbauer. The LR 1700-1.0 was produced for the assembly of wind turbines as well as for use in infrastructure and industrial projects. Wiesbauer deployed the new LR 1700-1.0 crane with its state-of-the-art derrick system during its initial operation. The V-frame ballasting system, which is a hydraulic foldable frame, was used to adjust the ballast radius of the crane from 13 to 21 meters. This system eliminates the need for a fixed ballast guide for large radii, providing infinite adjustability. During the construction of an electrical power plant in Marbach am Neckar, the LR 1700-1.0 lifted a 230-tonne transformer off a ship. In late December, Wiesbauer placed an order for additional cranes from Liebherr, consisting of two LTM 1070-4.2s, two LTM 1090-4.2s, two LTF 1060-4.1s, one LTM 1300-6.3, and one LTM 1650-8.1. This investment is intended to revitalize Wiesbauer’s fleet and, in certain instances, increase its capacity. “Through these new purchases and when making our purchasing decision, we placed great emphasis on the fact that all the counterweight plates on the smaller cranes and the booms on the larger cranes can be easily and quickly dismantled in order to achieve lighter driving conditions for the cranes, as the topic of vehicle weight, axle load and driving permits is becoming increasingly controversial throughout Germany,” explains the Wiesbauer team. Once pinning personnel leave the platform, they activate the secondary trolley, which automatically delivers the container to landside AGVs. Eurogate has relied on Liebherr for its container handling needs in previous projects, such as supplying over 20 STS cranes to Eurogate Terminals in Germany and eight STS cranes to Tanger Alliance in Morocco, where Eurogate is a shareholder. These cranes will be the first double trolley container cranes at CTW and will handle the largest container vessels in the world. The 24 cranes delivered to Al Faris include four LTM 1500-8.1s, which are the last production units of its most successful large crane. With a total of 15 machines, Al Faris now operates the world’s largest fleet of Liebherr 500-tonne cranes. “The LTM 1500-8.1 is my absolute favourite crane from Ehingen,” says Hillary Pinto, the company’s managing partner. The package of cranes also includes its upgraded model, the LTM 1650-8.1, which boasts increased power with a maximum lifting capacity of 700 tonnes and features the latest technology such as VarioBallast and VarioBase variable supporting base. Additionally, Al Faris has received its first LTM 1300-6.3, a 300-tonne crane on six axles and one of Liebherr’s latest mobile cranes with a 90-meter telescopic boom. The operation was overseen by Liebherr engineers at Patrick Terminals in Brisbane Autostrad. The Patrick Terminals – Brisbane Autostrad, located on the eastern coast of Australia, is a highly advanced container terminal. Liebherr has two ship-to-shore container cranes at the terminal, including a new STS that is currently being commissioned and another that was supplied in 2015. The 2015 crane had a lift height of 37.5m, but with the increasing size of vessels visiting the port, an extension of the lift height was needed. In 2022, a new patented jacking system for lift height extensions was used for the first time at the Brisbane terminal. Developed and manufactured by Liebherr Container Cranes in Ireland, the system’s key feature is that it utilizes the crane’s end carriage as a stable base for jacking the crane structure, eliminating the need for additional equipment. Additionally, as the system uses the crane structure as the foundation for jacking, the loadings are low and are carried through the existing crane. The preparation process for the lift height extension takes a couple of weeks, and the flexible system allows the crane to be jacked in place or moved away from the rails as needed. The actual crane raise and insertion of the extensions can be done in a few hours, making it suitable for terminals with high winds. The operation is very quick and the entire process can be finished in as little as four weeks per crane. Once the project is completed, the jacks are packaged in containers and shipped to their next destination. -Significant project at GCT New York LP in the Port of New York and New Jersey GCT New York LP operates four Liebherr ship-to-shore container cranes that were supplied in 2004. These cranes have a lift height of 36.57m and an outreach of 50m. In partnership with Liebherr USA, GCT is planning to undertake a significant Liebherr Transform project to increase the lift height of the cranes by 8.6m, and the outreach of the cranes by 5m (two bays). After the completion of the project, the cranes will have the capability to handle the largest vessels that call the port of NY/NJ, which will allow GCT to better serve its customers. The delivery took place a short time after an incident in the Kiel Canal, in which an LHM 600 ordered by Port Esbjerg was damaged while passing under the Holtenau High Bridge. Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock sent service engineers and technical specialists to assess the situation on site and to assist with the recovery immediately after the incident. In addition, a replacement unit was delivered to Port Esbjerg as quickly as possible. The first LHM 800 for Port Esbjerg was delivered in 2019. The high-rise-version allows the customer to lift project cargo up to a height of 92 metres. In a special heavy-lift version, the LHM 800 can lift loads of up to 308 tonnes. With the delivery of the second LHM 800, the Port of Esbjerg today already has the seventh Liebherr mobile harbour crane in operation. It will thus be the third port in the world to count two LHM 800s among its fleet. With this equipment, tandem lifts of up to 616 tonnes are possible. This means that even components of the next generation of offshore wind turbines can be handled. One of the landmarks of Esztergom is Saint Adalbert’s Cathedral. It was built around the year 1000 AD, but was destroyed in a fire in the 12th century. After it was rebuilt, the bishops had it enlarged and embellished repeatedly over the following centuries. After being destroyed again, it was rebuilt once more in the 19th century, which took 47 years. Today it is the largest church in Hungary. In the course of the current restoration of the cathedral, the large bell, weighing almost six tonnes, had to be lifted out of its tower so that the appropriate work could be carried out on it. To prevent damage to the windows and walls, it was necessary to remove the entire roof structure of the dome. “The time pressure was particularly challenging on this job. For the complete operation – all tower and bell parts had to be lifted out – the time window was limited to less than two days. The original plan was to use a smaller crane with an auxiliary boom. However, due to the time pressure, this was not possible. That’s why we chose our LTM 1250-6.1 for the job. The work was no problem for the 250-tonne crane with its 72-metre-long main boom,” explains Gábor Kopasz from the Budapest branch of Prangl- Hungaria Kft. At a height of around 70 metres, the LTM 1250-6.1 lifted the roof structure with its five extended telescopic sections and lowered it to the ground. This made it possible to lift the large bell out of the tower. Due to the limited space, the operation had to take place above a basement construction. The roof structure and the bells are being restored on site right next to the basilica. Members of the public can view the ongoing work from an observation platform. The cranes feature a four-rope hoist system that gives them a 63 t grab load curve for high bulk handling rates. On arrival at the plant location, the Hack team transported the E-Pack directly into the hall using an electric lift truck. Moving the AC 3.045 City-1 into position in the cleanroom hall was somewhat more complicated, as the most direct route was too tight, so the crane had to make a detour through the adjoining hall. The gates to the hall were barely three-meters wide, and inside there was very little room to maneuver, but neither of these constraints was a problem for the Tadano City crane with its ultra-compact design. On-site setup was very quick, with the entire process from start to finish, including connection of the E-Pack, taking just 30 minutes. “The customer originally wanted us to fit the AC 3.045-1 City with a runner, but in the end the compact overall height of the hook block meant we didn’t need to,” says Udo Hack. The crane had to be set up in a corner of the hall, the tight space constraints meant there were no other options, it had to telescope in and out for every lift. “As a result, some of the components we had to lift, pipes and concrete parts weighing up to 12 tonnes, exceeded the crane’s lifting capacity,” said Herbert Schellberg, a project manager at Hack. To remedy this, some of the components had to be dismantled prior to lifting so as to reduce their weight. “With their Tadano crane and its absolutely ingenious E-Pack, the Hack team did a fantastic job. Ten Liebherr EC-B series tower cranes are involved in the 650 million Euro project designed to create a new connection between nature and the workplace and is sustainable thanks to its solid wood construction. The “Arboretum” project on the banks of the Seine will provide 125,000 square metres of office and service space and will be mostly built of solid wood. The offices are set to be spread over five buildings and each of them will be named after a tree: Almond, Pine, Cedar, Fir and Spruce. A park, a fruit and vegetable garden for the use of campus restaurants, and two renovated industrial buildings will complete the area. Measures designed to reduce the site’s carbon footprint include the reuse of materials, bioclimatic architecture and a geothermal system that will cover up to 80 percent of heating and cooling requirements . GCC, a longstanding customer of Liebherr, has two 220 EC-B 10s, two 250 EC-B 10s, one 250 EC-B 12, two 285 EC B 12s, two 340 EC-B 12s and one 370 EC-B 12 in operation on the project. The jibs in use are between 47.5 and 60 metres in length. Hook heights range from 41 to 59 metres. As a result of these configurations and their flat-top design, the cranes can rotate above each other without encountering any problems. The transport and assembly-optimised cranes can, depending on the model, lift a maximum of ten or twelve tonnes. A 280 EC-H 12 high-top crane is additionally in use for the construction of the service centre. Having as many as ten cranes on a construction site requires precise planning for efficient site operation. The top-slewing cranes, which will remain in operation until mid-2023, have to be coordinated with one another so that they don’t interfere with each other’s lifts. To ensure optimal safety, all cranes are equipped with an anti-collision system from the French manufacturer AMCS Technologies. The machines also include LiUP operator lifts, which particularly benefit crane operators and service engineers working at high hook heights, as is the case here. LiUP is designed to transport two people or a load of 200 kilograms. It gives crane operators quick access to their workplace and spares service engineers a strenuous climb during maintenance work. Precise positioning The construction of the new office buildings involves 20,000 cubic metres of wood from sustainably managed forests, as well as 55,000 cubic metres of concrete. All loads, some of which weigh several tonnes, have to be moved, and this is where the Liebherr tower cranes come in. The top-slewing cranes are being used for positioning timber and concrete elements such as posts, beams, columns, staircases and lifts. This work is supported by the Micromove fine positioning mode. The assistance system makes perfect use of Liebherr’s own high-performance drives so that loads are moved with precision over the course of several minutes and positioned with accuracy. This protects precast filigree concrete parts and existing constructions on site. The package of new cranes includes four LTM 1070-4.2, three LTM 1110-5.1 and two LTM 1150- 5.3. In addition, the Asturian company opted for a refurbished LTM 1500-8.1 to complement its fleet in the 500-tonne range. In the meantime, all deliveries have been made and the project is complete. “ The reason for our investment is nothing other than to renew our machinery fleet with new and innovative models from the Liebherr brand, which we have relied on for years,” says José Manuel García, president of Grúas Roxu Grúas Roxu took delivery of the world’s first unit of the Liebherr LTM 1110-5.1 mobile crane two years ago. There are now already four units of this crane type in the fleet. “With a 60-meter telescopic boom and a compact chassis, it is a very versatile crane with an enormously high lifting capacity. These characteristics allow us to gain efficiency and competitiveness,” declares the president of Grúas Roxu. We believe “that it is the most technically complete crane in its class in all its parameters, and that is why it makes a clear difference for us. The company also pioneered the purchase of the first Liebherr LTM 1150-5.3 mobile crane in Spain. “The LTM 1150-5.3 is equipped with hill start assist for manoeuvring on slopes and mountains. This innovative technology, combined with the TraXon transmission, is a great help for us due to the terrain conditions and orography of our region,” emphasizes José Manuel García. This intervention was a subject to critical deadlines and Sarens’ project manager, Koen Rooms, wanted to leave nothing to chance: “That’s why we did a test lift the day before the planned response; This took place without any problem and validated all the preliminary calculations that we had carried out. We thus had the green light for the actual lifting operation scheduled for the next day, for which we had very little time.” It was therefore necessary to avoid at all costs the slightest delay during this intervention, from the assembly of the crane to its dismantling and evacuation, including the lifting operation itself. The site was indeed in the city center, at the station of the small town of Hazebrouck, located in the north of France. The 75 m long and 250 ton pedestrian bridge, planned to connect the station to a car park, had to be raised “in one piece” above eight railway tracks, moved, turned and finally placed on its foundations. To this end, the high-voltage lines above the tracks had to be de-energized for the duration of the intervention. “For this lifting operation, we opted for our Tadano CC 38.650-1 crane and equipped it in Superlift configuration with a 54 m jib, because it can reach exceptional load capacities. Plus, its compact design makes it easy to mount and move, even in the tightest of spaces,” says Koen Rooms. In order to disrupt traffic in the city as little as possible during the lifting operation, it was scheduled at night, over a weekend. Already the previous week, the Sarens team transported the crane to the construction site where they erected it in the space of 4 days in an SSL configuration, as well as a traffic lane made from wooden planks. Five hours lifting operation In order to be able to lift the bridge smoothly and avoid any damage, the Sarens team had developed special slings for the transom; these slings were used to lift the bridge. “The hoists made lifting rings unnecessary and not only helped us reduce assembly time, but also contributed to better control of the lifting operation.” This optimal preparation enabled the Sarens team to position the bridge on its foundations in just five hours, using the Tadano CC 38.650 crawler crane. “The crane had to lift the bridge to a height of 6 meters, within a working radius of 27 meters, and travel a total distance of 16 meters – a demanding task which the Tadano crane performed with flying colors”, summarizes Koen Room, with satisfaction at the end of the successfully completed project. #Tadano #CrawlerCrane #CC38650 #Superlift #Sarens #MoveItMagazine

Dogger Bank Wind Farm is a joint venture between SSE Renewables, Equinor and Vårgrønn. Mammoet will employ multiple lifting and transport crews for simultaneous operations to support with the loading of equipment and tower assembly in the marshalling harbor, a key piece in constructing the project. The team will utilize cranes and self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) axles at Able Seaton Port, the Dogger Bank Wind Farm marshalling harbor. GE will start preparing the marshalling harbor and receiving components at the end of 2022. Nathan Fahey, GE Project Director for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, said, “We are delighted to announce that we have selected Mammoet UK as our cranes and logistics supplier for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm. The cranes and associated equipment the company will provide and operate for us will be essential to the smooth operation of our marshalling harbor on Teesside, where 277 sets of blades, nacelles and towers of our Haliade-X wind turbines will be erected and transit over the course of the project. The CC 38.650 is therefore an ideal solution which offers a good blend of capacity and maneuverability. The crane is currently on site to complete its first tasks at the Cajuina Wind Farm in Angicos region, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The Cajuina Wind Farm will be comprised of 55 wind turbine generators (WTGs) which will have a total capacity of 314 Megawatts. The Brazilian government has steadily invested in expanding wind power generation throughout the country. In early 2022, wind energy represented about 11% of the Brazilian energy matrix, making it the third most common source. With a lifting capacity of up to 144 tonnes, this mobile harbour crane offers the port the ability to support larger project and special cargo, as well as optimised bulk operations. The main commercial terminal for the port is located at Eydehavn, just outside the city of Arendal. Eydehavn is a harbour that offers cranes and handling equipment for bulk loads, project cargo, offshore equipment, and containers. The four-rope version of the LHM 550 that was delivered to the client in Arendal will provide flexible applications for cargo and material lifting. For increased efficiency in handling bulk cargo, a suitable grab that is coupled with Liebherr’s SmartGrip technology was part of the crane’s delivery. This feature can optimise the filling rate of the grab in a self-learning manner. In this way, SmartGrip learns after just a few lifting cycles how to optimise capacity utilisation of the grab. This reduces overloads to a minimum, increases the material handling rate and, at the same time, alleviates crane operator stress. Bulk material such as salt and sulphur will be among the main resources that will be handled by the LHM 550. A forthcoming project in the area that will benefit from the crane’s optimisations is a new battery factory by Morrow Batteries. Rune Hvass, Port Director at Arendal Havn, notes: “After deliberations about which LHM model fits our logistical needs the best, we ultimately decided on the LHM 550. An increasing number of customers are demanding capacity for larger and heavier project and general cargo. To also provide better support for a new battery factory that will be built locally, the choice for a larger mobile harbour crane made most sense.” Rune Hvass continues: “The high-quality level at which Liebherr is building its cranes, and especially the service concept Liebherr provides, were some of the main reasons why we decided to purchase a Liebherr mobile harbour crane.” To help reduce noise, the crane is equipped with noise insulation material in the winch and machinery compartment.
