These flat-top cranes were erected in May 2023 to contribute to the construction of a five-storey residential building. Wael Hasan, Commercial Director at Raimondi Middle East, highlighted the substantial growth in the UAE’s construction industry, encompassing infrastructure, residential, and mixed-use development projects. The deployment of these four flat-top cranes marks Raimondi’s continued involvement in key projects across the country, with more than 30 machines already in operation, and plans for further expansion in the coming months. The MRT111 cranes were installed onsite in their final configurations, offering heights ranging from 33m to 48m and jib lengths of 42m and 36m. All of these machines are equipped with Raimondi Deluxe R16 crane cabins and are 8t flat-tops with a hoist gear capacity of 30kW, capable of lifting at a maximum speed of 100 m/min. Considering the project’s delivery schedule by contractor TownX Development, the MRT111 model was deemed well-suited for the jobsite, delivering excellent performance in terms of load capacity and hoisting speed. A comprehensive site study was conducted to determine the optimal crane positioning and installation, particularly since the site is situated between a primary school and occupied residential buildings. Planning also factored in onsite logistics during commissioning. The MRT111 continues to be one of the best-selling crane models in the MENA region. Over the past three years, Raimondi Cranes has expanded its presence in the Gulf Cooperation Council, with a notable number of the manufacturer’s models installed in Qatar and the UAE. Over the years, the company ventured into lifting and exceptional transport under the leadership of Claude Matthey, particularly through the acquisition of Petit Levage in 1991. Currently, Matthey-Petit Levage boasts an impressive fleet of 110 pieces of equipment, including 25 cranes ranging from 40 to 500 tons (Terex AC500), 4 Liebherr MK cranes with capacities from 88 to 140 tons, and 2 Spierings AT6 cranes. The company operates from two locations, Geneva and Lausanne, ensuring effective service coverage. With an annual turnover of 15 million euros, Matthey-Petit SA operates a modern fleet consisting of 25 cranes, 23 tractors, 52 heavy trailers for exceptional transports, and 11 truck-mounted cranes capable of lifting up to 120T/m. The acquisition of Matthey-Petit SA represents a significant strategic move for Mediaco, a family-owned and independent group based in Marseille. It not only fortifies the company’s presence abroad but also complements its existing four agencies in Germany, established between 2015 and 2020. This acquisition underlines Mediaco’s strong determination and ambition for international growth. Looking ahead, Mediaco plans to expand its Swiss subsidiary by acquiring new equipment in 2024, including 5 cranes ranging from 60 to 450 tons, 3 truck-mounted cranes with capacities up to 145t/m, and two complementary mobile tower cranes known as “MK.” A comprehensive development plan encompassing organic and external growth will be implemented to support the growth of Matthey-Petit Levage in Switzerland and offer customers the latest and most efficient machinery available in the market. To facilitate this expansion, the group has announced the recruitment of 20 new employees within the next 18 months. These cranes, capable of handling up to 26 container rows on a ship, were constructed by ZPMC and join the existing fleet of 10 cranes at the DP World terminal located on the eastern side of the Deurganck dock. The investment in these new cranes is part of DP World’s €200 million plan to modernise, expand and make the terminal more sustainable, which was initiated in 2019 and supported by the European Commission. The ultimate goal is to offer customers efficient, resilient and sustainable solutions. Dirk Van den Bosch, CEO of DP World Antwerp Gateway, expressed his belief in Antwerp’s position as a global trade hub and gateway to Europe, and the company’s commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of the port and making it the engine of the Belgian economy. He stated that the new cranes will enable the terminal to handle projected volume growth in the years ahead and consolidate its position as one of Europe’s top ports. Jef Lambregts, Expansion Project Manager, added that the terminal has already seen significant improvements since the investment program started in 2019, with the delivery of a new operational building and two automatic stacker crane modules. In addition to the three new cranes, three new automatic modules will be commissioned this year, and two more quay cranes will be added next year to bring the total to 15 ship-to-shore (STS) cranes. DP World is constantly investing in advanced equipment to increase its capacity for enhanced international trade flows. Rolling one crane from the ship to the rail tracks on the dock side takes approximately four to six hours via a special footbridge. The unloading process is precarious and must be done in perfect conditions such as weather, visibility, wind and water level, and takes about a week. After this, the cranes will be connected to the high voltage grid, the movements will be adjusted, and the container registration system will be installed to commission the cranes by the summer. The crane park at DP World Antwerp Gateway is capable of handling the largest container ships in the world, which can transport up to 24,000 containers (TEU). The latest cranes can handle up to 26 container rows on a ship, which is one row more than the current generation of container vessels. DP World’s investment in modernisation, expansion and sustainability will enable it to offer customers industry-leading efficient, resilient and sustainable solutions. The cranes are automated, cabinless, with a 73m primary outreach, a lift height of 54.5m, a span of 30.48m, and a 26m operational back reach with a secondary trolley. They are equipped with Liebherr Remote Operator Stations and designed for tandem operation. The primary trolley delivers containers to a pinning platform, where they rest on frames while twist locks are removed. Once pinning personnel leave the platform, they activate the secondary trolley, which automatically delivers the container to landside AGVs. Eurogate has relied on Liebherr for its container handling needs in previous projects, such as supplying over 20 STS cranes to Eurogate Terminals in Germany and eight STS cranes to Tanger Alliance in Morocco, where Eurogate is a shareholder. These cranes will be the first double trolley container cranes at CTW and will handle the largest container vessels in the world. Wilhelmshaven, being Germany’s only deep-water port allowing ultra-large container vessel access at all tides, is a key component of Germany’s transport infrastructure, and growth in throughput is expected with Eurogate’s expansion and modernization of the terminal into an automated terminal for the future. The operation was overseen by Liebherr engineers at Patrick Terminals in Brisbane Autostrad. The Patrick Terminals – Brisbane Autostrad, located on the eastern coast of Australia, is a highly advanced container terminal. Liebherr has two ship-to-shore container cranes at the terminal, including a new STS that is currently being commissioned and another that was supplied in 2015. The 2015 crane had a lift height of 37.5m, but with the increasing size of vessels visiting the port, an extension of the lift height was needed. In 2022, a new patented jacking system for lift height extensions was used for the first time at the Brisbane terminal. Developed and manufactured by Liebherr Container Cranes in Ireland, the system’s key feature is that it utilizes the crane’s end carriage as a stable base for jacking the crane structure, eliminating the need for additional equipment. Additionally, as the system uses the crane structure as the foundation for jacking, the loadings are low and are carried through the existing crane. The preparation process for the lift height extension takes a couple of weeks, and the flexible system allows the crane to be jacked in place or moved away from the rails as needed. The actual crane raise and insertion of the extensions can be done in a few hours, making it suitable for terminals with high winds. The operation is very quick and the entire process can be finished in as little as four weeks per crane. Once the project is completed, the jacks are packaged in containers and shipped to their next destination. -Significant project at GCT New York LP in the Port of New York and New Jersey GCT New York LP operates four Liebherr ship-to-shore container cranes that were supplied in 2004. These cranes have a lift height of 36.57m and an outreach of 50m. In partnership with Liebherr USA, GCT is planning to undertake a significant Liebherr Transform project to increase the lift height of the cranes by 8.6m, and the outreach of the cranes by 5m (two bays). After the completion of the project, the cranes will have the capability to handle the largest vessels that call the port of NY/NJ, which will allow GCT to better serve its customers. Speaking about the project, Mr. Torsten Paas, Divisional Manager Liebherr USA commented: “We have worked closely with our customers in GCT New York to develop a tailor made solution that will meet their growth needs over the coming years. In line with the well-known life expectancy of Liebherr cranes, GCT can expect many more years of quality service from their existing machines. Dogger Bank Wind Farm is a joint venture between SSE Renewables, Equinor and Vårgrønn. Mammoet will employ multiple lifting and transport crews for simultaneous operations to support with the loading of equipment and tower assembly in the marshalling harbor, a key piece in constructing the project. The team will utilize cranes and self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) axles at Able Seaton Port, the Dogger Bank Wind Farm marshalling harbor. GE will start preparing the marshalling harbor and receiving components at the end of 2022. Nathan Fahey, GE Project Director for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, said, “We are delighted to announce that we have selected Mammoet UK as our cranes and logistics supplier for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm. The cranes and associated equipment the company will provide and operate for us will be essential to the smooth operation of our marshalling harbor on Teesside, where 277 sets of blades, nacelles and towers of our Haliade-X wind turbines will be erected and transit over the course of the project.
