NEW 150 TONNE TELECRAWLER FROM LIEBHERR Read or download your free copy here:https://www.cranestodaymagazine.com/news/new-150-tonne-telecrawler-from-liebherr-11324915/ Transportability, increased crane control and pick & carry characteristics make the new LTR 1150 particularly suitable for construction and wind work, claims Liebherr. Liebherr has expanded its range of telescopic crawler cranes with a new 150-tonne machine. The LTR 1150 is positioned between the LTR 1100 and the LTR 1220. Although the new crane offers around 50 per cent more lifting capacity than the LTR 1100, Liebherr says it can be transported just as easily and economically as its 100-tonne sibling – complete with crawler carriers on low loaders with a total weight of 60 tonnes and a transport width of 3.5 metres, or optionally without crawler carriers at a total weight of just 38 tonnes and a width of only 3.0 metres. The LTR 1150 is the first telescopic crawler crane to be equipped with the Liebherr’s VarioBase system, which enables the crane control to determine the optimum load capacity depending on the track width and angle of rotation. With the launch of the LTR 1150, Liebherr says it is responding to the requirements of crane operators faced with lifting jobs that are beyond the LTR 1100, but for which the LTR 1220 is overkill. To transport the crane without the crawler carriers, which gives a total transport weight of 38 tonnes, a jack-up erection support consisting of four swivelling cylinders is required. This support the crane on the ground while the tracks are removed and the low-loader positions itself under the crane. This method is tried and tested with Liebherr’s 100-tonne LTR 1100. The LTR 1150 also has a new automatic support system to assist the operator. Liebherr says this was developed to allow faster and easier (dis)assembly of the crawler carriers. The two crawler carriers, each weighing 11 tonnes, can be transported together on a standard semi-trailer with an economical width of 2.55 metres. The integrated access steps are folded in during transport. In terms of ballast distribution, with only four lifts, the entire counterweight can be ballasted on the crane: two lifts for the two 11-tonne central ballasts and two for the maximum slewing platform ballast of 41 tonnes. As with the Liebherr LTM cranes, this is attached to the slewing platform using a hydraulic ballasting device. Liebherr-AutoBallast is designed to support the crane driver during this process. The support for the slewing platform ballast is integrated in the central ballast. The LTR 1150 is the first telescopic crawler crane to be equipped with Liebherr’s VarioBase variable supporting base system which determines the optimum load capacity in real time depending on the fixed track width and the variable rotation angle. The company says that not only does it provide greater safety for telescopic mobile cranes, but also allows significantly higher load capacities, especially for lifts directly over the supports. With the VarioBase system Liebherr says the greatest advantages in terms of load capacity are achieved when performing lifts over the corners of the tracks, especially with reduced track widths. The maximum track width of 5.8 metres, a reduced width of 5.0 metres, and a narrow 3.5-metre track width are available. As with the other Liebherr LTR cranes, the LTR 1150 is also equipped with load charts for slopes up to a maximum of 4° – in gradations of 0.3°, 0.7°, 1.5°, 2.5° and 4°. For the first time for its telescopic crawler cranes, Liebherr has also calculated "WindSpeed Load Charts" for the new LTR 1150, which make it possible to work safely and flexibly even at higher permissible wind speeds of up to 15.6 m/s – even with the full load capacity in many boom positions. Liebherr believes the crane will particularly appeal to users working in the wind farm erection and construction industries thanks to its performance and pick & carry characteristics. It is capable of assembling crawler cranes up to the 1,000-tonne class and can move components weighing over 60 tonnes. Liebherr says the crane’s short, powerful erection jib and additional hoist gear mean the LTR 1150 can move loads of up to 34.6 tonnes into position. The range of working equipment for the 52-metre telescopic boom also includes a hydraulically adjustable double folding jib and telescopic boom extensions that allow hoisting heights of up to 83 metres to be achieved. #Liebherr #LTR1150 #CranesTodayMagazine

Raimondi LRH174 Luffing Cranes Shine In Melbourne’s Parliament Restoration READ YOUR FREE COPY HERE:https://moveitmagazine.com/2023/10/10/raimondi-lrh174-luffing-cranes-shine-in-melbournes-parliament-restoration/ Clark Cranes, the official Raimondi agent, has successfully deployed two Raimondi LRH174 hydraulic luffing jib cranes as part of the ongoing restoration project for the Parliament of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. Over the past 15 years, Clark Cranes has established itself as a valued partner of Raimondi Cranes, managing operations in the Victoria district. The company is proud to have supplied one of its most sought-after crane models from their fleet to the project contractors, O’Connor & Sons and Harris HMC. Michael Clark, the Managing Director of Clark Cranes, expressed his pride in contributing to the restoration of this iconic Melbourne landmark. He stated, “It is an honor for us to participate in the restoration of such a valuable landmark for the city of Melbourne by deploying two of our machines.” The extensive refurbishment of the Parliament building has been carried out in multiple stages over the past decade. The two LRH174 luffing cranes were strategically installed at different phases by the skilled commissioning team at Clark Cranes. The first crane was erected in 2019, followed shortly by the installation of the second crane in 2020. Both LRH174 cranes were placed on a ballast base with a final configuration featuring a 36-meter mast and a maximum radius of 50 meters. These 10-ton luffers boast a tip load capacity of 2.25 tons and can achieve a maximum lifting speed of 190 meters per minute, thanks to their 45kW hoisting gear with a drum capacity of 600 meters. To minimize disruptions at the busy government site, the decision to mount the cranes on a ballast base was crucial. This approach eliminated the need for extensive excavation work required for permanent footings. Additionally, the LRH174’s hydraulic luffing system operates quietly compared to traditional mechanical luffers. The LRH174 is designed for ease of installation, contributing to efficient onsite operations. Ground-level assembly of the crane’s jib, hoisting winch, and rope reeving streamlines the process. Notably, the LRH174’s compact 10-meter out-of-service boom is ideal for narrow jobsites, and its hydraulic system ensures smooth and swift luffing movement. Michael Clark noted the increasing demand for luffing jib cranes like the LRH174, particularly in projects with oversailing issues where the 10-meter out-of-service radius proves invaluable during decision-making. As the Parliament restoration project nears its final stage, both LRH174 cranes will be dismantled in the coming months. They are slated for reallocation to two other jobsites at the start of 2024, showcasing their versatility and adaptability in meeting diverse construction needs. #Raimondi #LRH174 #ClarkCranes #MoveItMagazine

Swiss Wind Power Gets A Lift With Liebherr Cranes READ YOUR FREE COPY HERE: https://moveitmagazine.com/2023/09/28/swiss-wind-power-gets-a-lift-with-liebherr-cranes/ Wind energy in Switzerland accounts for a small fraction of the nation’s energy mix, contributing just 0.25% of the total electricity production, primarily dominated by hydropower. However, recent developments in the Jura mountain range in the canton of Vaud, near the French border, have added six new wind turbines to the landscape. These turbines, boasting a combined output of 13.8 MWh, were installed during the summer months using cutting-edge equipment from Liebherr, a renowned crane manufacturer. Emil Egger AG, a crane company, deployed its two most powerful hoisting units, the LR 1700-1.0 and the LR 11000, to navigate the challenging terrain at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters. The heaviest lifts occurred during the installation of the generators, with the LR 11000 handling a massive 71-tonne load, including the hook block and slings. To tackle the towering assembly heights of around 100 meters, a 114-meter-long main boom was fitted to the crane. While the rotor components were visually striking, they weighed slightly less than the generators, totaling 65 tonnes. Specialized equipment was used to maneuver the 40-meter-long rotor blades into a vertical position during the lifting process. Meanwhile, the LR 1700-1.0 worked on erecting other wind turbines nearby, featuring a 99-meter main boom and a 12-meter jib set at a ten-degree angle to ensure ample lifting height. Emphasizing the choice of Liebherr equipment, Managing Director Michael Egger noted, “All the crawler cranes in our fleet are from Liebherr. We rely completely on the Liebherr brand for crawler crane technology because these modern machines are extremely practical and user-friendly. The machines are simply ‘state of the art,’ and Liebherr’s service leaves little to be desired.” Emphasizing their satisfaction with Liebherr’s support, Egger added, “If we have a major problem with our equipment, a mechanic is on-site within two hours. And that’s worth a lot.“ #Liebherr #LR1700-1.0 #Cranes #EmilEggerAG #MoveItMagazine

Sarens Helps Build Africa’s Tallest Bridge In Cairo READ YOUR FREE COPY HERE: https://moveitmagazine.com/2023/09/08/sarens-helps-build-africas-tallest-bridge-in-cairo/ Sarens has played a pivotal role in the construction of what is set to become one of Africa’s highest bridges, the Al Hadarat Bridge in Cairo. Over the course of several weeks, Sarens executed two lifting operations on behalf of Arab Contractors, bringing the bridge project one step closer to completion. In the initial phase, Sarens successfully lifted and installed eleven massive steel beams, each weighing 150 tonnes and stretching 41 meters in length. To accomplish this, the crew utilized a CC4800 crane configured for SSL (Super Slim Lift) with a 66-meter main boom and 270T SL CW. After carefully hoisting each beam from its original position, the crane was expertly maneuvered into its designated location. The dedicated four-person team flawlessly executed eleven such lifts over the course of a single week. The choice of equipment for these lifts was crucial, and it performed admirably throughout the operation. The CC4800 crane was transported to the site following its completion of a prior project. Rigging preparations consumed five days, with the team working within extremely confined spaces, at times having only a mere 10cm of clearance. For the subsequent series of lifts, Sarens deployed the CC2600H crane, equipped with a 78-meter main boom, for another challenging high-altitude operation. The same four-person crew then installed 63 beams, each weighing a substantial 90 tonnes and measuring an impressive 50 meters in length. After carefully lifting each beam from the trailer, the team adeptly positioned it into place, successfully completing 63 such lifts within a span of three weeks. Once again, the choice of crane was paramount due to its capacity, and precise positioning was a critical aspect of the planning phase, given the necessity for a series of tightly coordinated lifts. The crane was brought to the site following its completion of a prior project, and rigging preparations took three days. The crane’s positioning was particularly challenging, with only a scant 15cm of clearance in its immediate surroundings. Working in close collaboration with the client, project manager Mohamed Abd El Nasser and country manager Essam Adel ensured meticulous attention to detail, from determining the number of lifts required to pinpointing exact lifting locations during installation. Despite contending with some challenging winds, the team successfully carried out the lifts necessary for this iconic project. The world’s gaze is fixed upon the Al Hadarat Bridge project, and Sarens takes immense pride in its role in bringing this remarkable endeavor to fruition! #Sarens #Cranes #CC4800 #CC2600H #MoveItMagazine

WILKERSON CRANE RENTAL EXPANDS FLEET Read or download your free copy here: https://www.cranestodaymagazine.com/news/wilkerson-crane-rental-expands-fleet-11084928 Third Manitowoc MLC300 lattice boom crawler with VPC-MAX boosts crane company’s capacity for the large tasks. Kansas City, USA-based company, Wilkerson Crane Rental (Wilkerson), commemorates its 10th anniversary by enhancing its capabilities through the acquisition of a new Manitowoc MLC300 lattice-boom crawler crane equipped with VPC-MAX technology. Despite its long-standing expertise in hoisting, lift planning, heavy hauling, and equipment servicing spanning over four decades, Wilkerson Crane Rental officially commenced operations in 2013. The establishment of the company emerged as Diana Holt orchestrated a rescue effort for the crane division, previously on the verge of dissolution. The division had been a significant part of her husband Jeff Holt's career as an operator and assembly director, and her father-in-law Fred Holt who was the general manager. Under Diana's leadership as CEO and with Jeff overseeing operations as the Director of Operations, Wilkerson Crane Rental has expanded. The company's fleet of cranes now extends to regions including Arkansas, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Texas, and Wyoming. The impetus for this growth, says Manitowoc, has been a surge in local economic activity, including the construction of a new airport, data centres, and a battery plant, alongside the escalating demand for wind farms and infrastructure projects. Jeff Holt, director of operations at Wilkerson, shared insights into their crane acquisitions: "Four years ago, we procured our inaugural MLC300 featuring an extended wide boom and upper boom point, primarily designated for wind farm projects. With the exception of a brief interlude for a three-month assignment, this crane has been pivotal in the maintenance of numerous wind turbines over time. "Two years later we introduced a second MLC300 with similar specifications which initially embarked on wind-related ventures but soon diversified its role to encompass tilt-wall construction and infrastructure undertakings—where its versatility shone. Presently, it is stationed on a long-term project involving the replacement of a bridge over Table Rock Lake in Ridgedale, Missouri. "Five months back, we invested in our third MLC300, this time integrating the VPC-MAX and Wide Boom Plus attachments. These additions are interchangeable across all three MLC300 units and have been instrumental in maintaining wind towers reaching heights of up to 100 meters. In the past five months, these attachments facilitated complete rotor drops for 100-meter wind turbines. The latest crane assignment involves contributing to the construction of a sizable tire plant in Topeka, Kansas, utilising its main boom and fixed jib." The recent inclusion of a 386 ton capacity crawler, sourced from Kirby Smith, bolstered Wilkerson's collection, which already featured two other MLC300 models. The fleet extends to encompass a range of Manitowoc crawlers, including the MLC90-A, 999, 16000, and MLC650 equipped with VPC-MAX. Notably, the MLC650 with VPC-MAX has successfully completed operations on two bridge projects and is now exclusively dedicated to wind farm initiatives. Expanding beyond cranes, Wilkerson's equipment inventory also embraces offerings from Manitowoc and Grove, incorporating the Grove GMK6350, RT765E-2, as well as four National Crane boom trucks—with plans for an additional two to join soon. #WilkersonCraneRental #Manitowoc # MLC300 #CranesTodayMagazine

ZOOMLION LAUNCHES WORLD’S LARGEST TOWER CRANE Read or download your free copy here: https://www.cranestodaymagazine.com/news/zoomlion-launches-worlds-largest-tower-crane-10821612/ 720 tonne capacity R2000-720 tower crane rolls off Zoomlion’s Changde factory production line. Chinese construction machinery manufacturer Zoomlion has launched the new R2000-720 tower crane at its Tower Crane Intelligent Factory in Changde. Claimed to be the world’s largest tower crane, the R2000-720 incorporates 305 invention patents and 158 novel scientific research achievements. With a 720t capacity and a height of 400m, the crane can lift 500 automobiles up to 130 storeys. It represents a milestone for Zoomlion in its global expansion strategy for advanced manufacturing. The company’s Changde manufacturing facility can produce 13 models of large tower cranes at full capacity, covering nearly all the requirements of ongoing large hoisting projects. The R2000-720 will be used in the building of the Ma’anshan Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge, a three-tower cable-stayed bridge. Zoomlion spokesperson said: “R2000-720 has made innovations and breakthroughs in balancing weight, structure, intelligent control and other technologies, solving multiple global challenges for ultra-large tower cranes under extremely complex working conditions, such as strong wind, high humidity and heavy load, meaning it’s not just the world’s largest, but also strongest tower crane.” The R2000-720 employs a heavy-duty split structure and a high-load-bearing lightweight construction. This helps reduce the tower crane’s upper structure by more than 20% in comparison to traditional solutions, says Zoomlion. #Zoomlion #towercrane #R2000-720 #CranesTodayMagazine

I leave you a little story... happy Friday. Of the provisional reception of a thirty-ton power crane supplied by tender by Messrs. Sheldon and Gerdtzen and installed in the outgoing wharf No. 2 of those built by this Board. Reconnaissance and tests of a steam crane with a power of thirty tons, supplied and assembled by Messrs. Sheldon and Gerdtzen in the aforementioned wharf No. 2. The recognition shows that the materials that go into the construction of the crane are of good quality, that the workmanship is careful and that the assembly has been carried out with the necessary perfection. To carry out the tests, the fifty-two-ton counterweight was placed, which is the one that has been adopted for the maximum load in this crane, and it was rotated without a load on the boom, with only the effort of two men, applied to the cranks of the movement by hand. This turn was made smoothly with the greatest ease, which demonstrates excellent project, construction and assembly conditions. For the successive tests, it was taken into account, as provided in article eight of the optional and economic specifications of the contest, that they had to be power and speed; and since the crane is designed to manually lift loads that do not exceed ten tons, the tests had to be carried out first with manual movement and then with the steam engine. The tests by hand were carried out by suspending a load of ten thousand kilograms of chains, with the effort of six men, who hoisted seventy centimeters in ten minutes, making a ninety-degree turn in one minute and two seconds, that is, at a speed of thirty-five centimeters per minute hoisting and a complete turn of the crane in four minutes and eight seconds. These speeds are within the ordinary conditions that six-man effort can produce on a hand-held crane. For the tests with a steam engine, a wooden barge was prepared, displacing approximately thirty-two cubic meters, after having placed the beams and steel wire ties. The day before the official test, this barge was suspended by means of the same crane, extracting it from the sea and placing it on the dock, and on the day of the date it was suspended again in the presence of the signatories, making it describe a turn of one hundred and sixty and four degrees in one minute and twenty seconds, a speed almost double that established in the specifications, which detailed later, required a speed of three hundred and sixty degrees in four minutes. The barge was lowered, leaving it on the dock again and a load of four tons of chains was added, which added to the thirty-two of the barque, give a total of thirty-six tons. That final load was suspended by the crane hoisting eighty centimeters in thirty-three seconds, which gives a speed of two meters and seven centimeters per minute, that is, twice the speed established in the specifications, which is one meter per minute. . To finish the tests, the crane was rotated until the boat projected out of the dock and was lowered into the water with the chain load attached. All these tests took place without any resistance or assembly defect being noted in the machine, verifying all the movements regularly and precisely. It is also stated in the certificate issued by Messrs. Sheldon and Gerdtzen in accordance with the provisions of article nine of the specifications for the tender, that the factories of the base of the crane and the embedments of the irons that hold it, built by the Board of Works of the Port are made in accordance with the project and with the solidity necessary to secure and handle the crane and this is confirmed by the recognition carried out by the Chief Engineer, who in view of all the above and in compliance with article ten of the specifications of conditions, provisionally considers the crane received, subject to what the Superiority resolves and for the record, signs this document, in quadruplicate, with the Messrs. above exposed in Santander on May 16, 1
