The overhaul work is currently taking place at MGX Equipment Services facilities in Belle Chasse and Birmingham, Alabama. The Manitowoc 2250 crawler cranes, renowned for their 300 USt capacity, hold a key position in the rental market, serving a variety of sectors, including data centers, e-commerce warehouses, petrochemical plants, infrastructure projects, and renewable energy endeavors. Larry Lis, Vice President of Fleet at Maxim Crane Works, emphasized the economic advantages of remanufacturing these trusted cranes. “The Manitowoc 2250 is the only true 300 USt crawler crane on the market with the ideal cost-benefit tradeoff for rental work. We can have them remanufactured by Manitowoc and have great working cranes for another 12-15 years at a fraction of the cost of purchasing newer cranes,” Lis explained. These flat-top cranes were erected in May 2023 to contribute to the construction of a five-storey residential building. Wael Hasan, Commercial Director at Raimondi Middle East, highlighted the substantial growth in the UAE’s construction industry, encompassing infrastructure, residential, and mixed-use development projects. The deployment of these four flat-top cranes marks Raimondi’s continued involvement in key projects across the country, with more than 30 machines already in operation, and plans for further expansion in the coming months. The MRT111 cranes were installed onsite in their final configurations, offering heights ranging from 33m to 48m and jib lengths of 42m and 36m. All of these machines are equipped with Raimondi Deluxe R16 crane cabins and are 8t flat-tops with a hoist gear capacity of 30kW, capable of lifting at a maximum speed of 100 m/min. Considering the project’s delivery schedule by contractor TownX Development, the MRT111 model was deemed well-suited for the jobsite, delivering excellent performance in terms of load capacity and hoisting speed. A comprehensive site study was conducted to determine the optimal crane positioning and installation, particularly since the site is situated between a primary school and occupied residential buildings. Planning also factored in onsite logistics during commissioning. The MRT111 continues to be one of the best-selling crane models in the MENA region. Over the past three years, Raimondi Cranes has expanded its presence in the Gulf Cooperation Council, with a notable number of the manufacturer’s models installed in Qatar and the UAE. In December, the new 700-tonne crane successfully completed its first operation in Marbach am Neckar, demonstrating its capabilities. “As we already have a 650-tonne and a 1,000-tonne crawler crane in our fleet, the LR 1700-1.0 is the ideal addition to the mid-range of our crawler crane portfolio,” explains Marco Wilhelm, authorised signatory and head of technology at Wiesbauer. The LR 1700-1.0 was produced for the assembly of wind turbines as well as for use in infrastructure and industrial projects. Wiesbauer deployed the new LR 1700-1.0 crane with its state-of-the-art derrick system during its initial operation. The V-frame ballasting system, which is a hydraulic foldable frame, was used to adjust the ballast radius of the crane from 13 to 21 meters. This system eliminates the need for a fixed ballast guide for large radii, providing infinite adjustability. During the construction of an electrical power plant in Marbach am Neckar, the LR 1700-1.0 lifted a 230-tonne transformer off a ship. In late December, Wiesbauer placed an order for additional cranes from Liebherr, consisting of two LTM 1070-4.2s, two LTM 1090-4.2s, two LTF 1060-4.1s, one LTM 1300-6.3, and one LTM 1650-8.1. This investment is intended to revitalize Wiesbauer’s fleet and, in certain instances, increase its capacity. “Through these new purchases and when making our purchasing decision, we placed great emphasis on the fact that all the counterweight plates on the smaller cranes and the booms on the larger cranes can be easily and quickly dismantled in order to achieve lighter driving conditions for the cranes, as the topic of vehicle weight, axle load and driving permits is becoming increasingly controversial throughout Germany,” explains the Wiesbauer team. After the unexpected and sorrowful passing of Thomas Wiesbauer in April of the previous year, the Wiesbauer family business is now jointly led by its third and fourth generations. Sissy and Florian Wiesbauer, fourth-generation family members, have taken charge of the operational management and collaborate closely with Sabine and Jochen Wiesbauer. The third-generation family company from northern Germany has placed orders for a 220 EC-B 12, two 220 EC-B 10s and two 340 EC-B 12s. All ordered cranes, featuring custom paintwork, will be delivered throughout autumn 2022. In total, Otto Wulff now owns 32 Liebherr tower cranes from the K, EC-B and EC-H series. “The new 220 EC-B 10/12 and 340 EC-B 12 cranes fit in perfectly with our existing Liebherr tower cranes,” says Michael Jahn, Head of Crane Logistics at Otto Wulff. “Their modular design and outstanding load capacities mean we can put them to optimal use.” The cranes first job will be in Leipzig on the construction of school buildings. The 220 EC-B 10 and 340 EC-B 12 are involved in building a secondary school, which is set to become part of the new Löwitz quarter. Together with partners, Otto Wulff is currently in the process of developing an urban quarter to the west of Leipzig’s main railway station that will include around 500 residential units as well as offices, cafés, restaurants, a hotel and a day-care centre. The new secondary school will be at the heart of the quarter. A second new school building is also taking shape at Prager Spitze in Leipzig. The order was booked in September 2022 and the eco-efficient cranes will be delivered in the second quarter of 2023. The three new cranes are Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7B Mobile Harbor Cranes, with a working radius of 51 m and a capacity of 125 t. The berths associated with the terminals in Kakinada Seaport are well-equipped with high-tension electrical points, to which these cranes can be connected. The cranes rely on an external power supply without an onboard diesel generator set. This drive system enables higher efficiency and lowers operational costs while simultaneously reducing noise and exhaust emissions. The cranes feature a four-rope hoist system that gives them a 63 t grab load curve for high bulk handling rates. In cooperation with Konecranes India, Bothra Shipping will receive on-site technical support as they integrate the cranes into their operations. “As we looked at ways to develop our terminals, Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor Cranes offered us the best available combination of outstanding performance with less noise and no local exhaust. This is our first equipment from Konecranes, and we are keen to see how it raises our productivity and overall eco-efficiency,” said Ajit Bothra, owner of Bothra Group. Dogger Bank Wind Farm is a joint venture between SSE Renewables, Equinor and Vårgrønn. Mammoet will employ multiple lifting and transport crews for simultaneous operations to support with the loading of equipment and tower assembly in the marshalling harbor, a key piece in constructing the project. The team will utilize cranes and self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) axles at Able Seaton Port, the Dogger Bank Wind Farm marshalling harbor. GE will start preparing the marshalling harbor and receiving components at the end of 2022. Nathan Fahey, GE Project Director for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, said, “We are delighted to announce that we have selected Mammoet UK as our cranes and logistics supplier for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm. The cranes and associated equipment the company will provide and operate for us will be essential to the smooth operation of our marshalling harbor on Teesside, where 277 sets of blades, nacelles and towers of our Haliade-X wind turbines will be erected and transit over the course of the project. Due to its size and scale, the site is being built in three consecutive phases: Dogger Bank A, Dogger Bank B and Dogger Bank C. “This contract represents not just a win for Mammoet and renewable energy investment but for the people of Teesside,” said UK Managing Director, Mark Sadler. “Securing the project means even greater potential investment and business growth that will expand our existing pool of highly skilled labor with renewables expertise in the region.
