Increased capabilities aimed at developing European, Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific markets.
The Manitowoc plant in Niella Tanaro, Italy has expanded its manufacturing capabilities to include the production of Grove GRT8120 and GRT8100-1 rough-terrain cranes. The plant serves customers in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. The GRT8120 is the largest Grove RT crane ever built at the plant, offering a 120-ton capacity and impressive features. It has a 60m MEGAFORMTM boom, a tip height of 80.8m with the optional jib, and the MAXbase outrigger system for flexibility. The GRT8100-1 replaces the older GRT8100 and combines the cab and carrier of the GRT8120 for improved operation and servicing. The Niella Tanaro plant embraces lean manufacturing and offers locally produced cranes with shared components for efficient parts support.

MLC650 crawler crane with VPC-MAX installs 16 bridge beams.
Tutt Bryant Heavy Lift and Shift (TBHLS), an Australian heavy lift contractor and crane provider, used its Manitowoc MLC650 crawler crane with VPC-MAX to install 16 bridge beams on the Leach Highway and Welshpool Road Interchange in Western Australia.
The crane's strength allowed TBHLS to complete the work from only two positions, saving time and ground preparation work. With Manitowocโs VPC-MAX the capacity of the 650 t crane increases to 700 t and has the strongest load charts in its class.
The assembly was completed three days ahead of schedule.
The project was worth A$93 million and was handled by a local joint venture formed by engineering companies BG&E, Georgiou Group, and Golder Associates. Prior to the upgrades, the intersection was the second most dangerous and congested in Western Australia with more than 200 crashes between 2015 and 2019.

Schuch Heavylift Expands Fleet With 8 Grove Cranes

German crane rental company, Schuch Heavylift, has recently expanded its rental fleet with eight new Grove cranes, ranging from 60 to 450 t capacity, over the past 12 months. The fleet includes a custom-built model via Manitowocโs specialist consulting division, Lift Solutions.
The investment in Grove cranes has expanded Schuch Heavyliftโs capabilities, with a particular focus on the new Grove GMK6450-1 six-axle model, which shares the same design as the Grove GMK6400-1 but has an increased maximum capacity of 450 t. The GMK6450-1 also features a five-section 60 m MEGAFORM main boom, which delivers an impressive 136 m tip height when fitted with the optional 25 โ 79 m luffing jib.
Schuch Heavyliftโs GMK6450-1 has a unique feature of having the option of removing the boom, allowing it to be configured at axle loads of below 10 t. To optimize driving without a boom, a second suspension circuit was installed on the MegaDrive system, which adapts the chassis to the different axle loads. The crane was also delivered with the optional MegaWingLift attachment, increasing capacities at steeper boom angles, plus luffing and fixed jibs for greater jobsite versatility.
The Schuch Group, which has been in business for over four decades, owns and operates Schuch Heavylift from six locations in southwest Germany. Schuch Heavylift also undertakes projects across Europe, North America, Africa, and the Middle East. KranAgentur Werner sold all the cranes to Schuch Heavylift and provides full aftersales service.

Strategic partnership with New York-based Empire designed to benefit customers.
At ConExpo 2023 USA-based crane provider Bigge has announced the acquisition of the majority stake in Empire Crane Company โ a full-service crane sales and repair company headquartered in upstate New York.
The alliance means Bigge's fleet of over 1,800 cranes and 21 maintenance facilities is now even more readily available to customers on the East Coast.
Bigge says this new partnership is a milestone for both companies and that it will benefit crane buyers worldwide with its true coast-to-coast offering.
This strategic relationship is designed to give customers access to more inventory and reduce freight costs associated with shipping equipment nationwide. Bigge's fleet includes equipment from Tadano, Kobelco, Liebherr, Manitowoc, Potain, Peiner, Terex, Comedil, Broderson, Merlo, Magni, Xtreme, Manitex, and Jekko.

Italian rental giant expands fleet with three GRT655L rough terrain cranes from Grove.
Italian headquartered Massucco T. has expanded its crane fleet with three new Grove GRT655L rough terrain models. It operates a fleet of over 1,800 vehicles covering the lifting and earthmoving markets. It was founded over 60 years ago and has 13 branches across Italy, France, and Tunisia and is one of the largest rental companies in Italy.
โThere were many reasons behind our choice to invest in Grove again,โ said Roberto Borgogno, sales manager at Massucco T. โOur previous experience with the brand, and our awareness of the reliability and excellent technical support were relevant. But perhaps the main attraction was the advanced technologies on the crane. These are not gadgets, but digital tools that impact crane management and maintenance. For example, the diagnostics feature is an extremely important way to keep on top of operating and maintenance costs. It allows us to precisely schedule service based on working hours.โ
The craneโs onboard diagnostics enable the actual hours of many machine functions (winch, boom, slewing, engine, hydraulics etc.) to be recorded, ensuring maintenance is performed when needed. The frequency of maintenance is also reduced due to a design focussed on increased component service life, says Grove. For example, by mounting the outrigger jack cylinders upside down, the chrome part of the cylinder and the seals are protected against damage, sand, dust, and other contaminants. And by using hydraulic disc-brakes with double callipers, instead of the more common, less-efficient pneumatic design, there is no need for a separate maintenance schedule.
Borgogno also cited the craneโs compact and portable nature as being important factors, too. โThe GRT655L is just 3m wide and has a removable counterweight, so itโs easy to transport on a trailer,โ adds Borgogno. Despite these small dimensions the crane has a capacity of 60 tonnes, a 43 m boom, a tilting cab, and a removable counterweight โ all features usually only found on larger rough-terrain cranes.
โThe GRT655Lโs impressive load charts and performance are a big selling point, but even more importantly, itโs a crane with features that are perfect for the Italian and European market โ and thatโs a major advantage in the rental business,โ continued Borgogno. โWith these purchases, our fleet is more versatile, allowing us to further extend our offering and cover a wider range of applications, from assembling prefabricated buildings to maintenance and process work in industrial plants.โ
The cranes were presented to the Italian rental giant at a handover event at Manitowocโs Niella Tanaro factory, just 30 minutes from Massucco T.โs headquarters in Cuneo, Piedmont.

North American crane rental and sales operation ALL Family of Companies is expanding its fleet with two large Manitowoc lattice boom crawlers, plus attachments.
ALLโs order includes two new Manitowoc MCL300 VPCs, two additional VPC-MAX attachments, one MLC300 luffing jib attachment, and one MLC650 3.5-metre-wide boom attachment.
The new equipment, expected for delivery in early summer, will be strategically deployed across ALLโs national footprint.
The 330-ton class (300 tonne) crawlers have a self-erect mast cylinder designed to reduce set-up time while Manitowocโs proprietary Variable Position Counterweight (VPC) technology eliminates the need for passive carbody weights โ weight that can now be added to the upperworks to increase capacity while retaining performance and on-site mobility. According to Manitowoc, this means reduced transport configurations and a better centre of gravity for reduced ground bearing pressure.
The VPC-MAX attachment
Also enables the load chart plus the boom and jib combination lengths to be further increased with reduced tail swing โ delivering greater lifting capacity in a smaller work environment.

Two Potain MCR 295s go to Orascom for construction of high-profile mixed-use development.
Egyptian contractor Orascom Construction has purchased the countryโs first two Potain MCR 295 luffing jib tower cranes from local dealer IDP.
The cranes are being used by Orascom to develop the Maspero Triangle district in downtown Cairo. The 75-acre area, by the River Nile, is already home to many important buildings including the Radio and Television Union Maspero building, the Foreign Ministry building, the Dar al-Maarif building, the Italian Consulate, and the Ramses Hilton Hotel.
Space was limited so Orascom Construction needed cranes that were not only reliable, consistent, and high performing but which could also work efficiently on a confined jobsite, helping to meet delivery deadlines, Manitowoc said.
With a 60 m jib length and load capacity of up to 16 t, the two Potain MCR 295 luffing jib cranes were well suited to the job. The compact and versatile design with near-vertical luffing capability
enables multiple cranes to be positioned on site and avoids oversailing existing buildings.
IDP and Potain erected the cranes with an initial 37 m height under hook and they will reach a final height under hook of 150 m. The cranes will remain on site for approximately three years.
The project, estimated at LE10 billion (US$400 million), is part of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's development plan and aims to transform the area into a thriving hub for living, working, and relaxing. The western side of the project has been allocated for administrative and commercial purposes, while the centre will be an entertainment area. There will also be hotels and tourist attractions facing the River Nile.

UK tower rental company Falcon Tower Crane Services predicts potential in UK for Potain brand.
Manitowoc has appointed UK tower crane rental house Falcon Tower Crane Services as its new UK dealer for Potain self-erecting cranes. The announcement was made at the Bauma trade show.
Falcon Tower Crane Services confirmed an order for six cranes as part of the new arrangement. The company will receive two Potain Igo 50 models, a Potain Hup 40-30, and three Potain Igo T 85 A cranes.
Falcon Tower Crane Services is one of the largest tower crane rental company in the UK, with a fleet of 450 units. The company is taking on the UK dealership of Potain self-erecting cranes as it continues to develop its sales.

The Igo 50 is the largest self-erecting crane in Potainโs Igo range. The 4 t capacity crane features a 40 m jib and can lift 1.1 t at jib end. It is designed with a small rear slewing radius to ensure manoeuvrability even at the most congested jobsites.
The 4 t Potain Hup 40-30 shines in both versatility and agility with several configuration options, high-performance slewing that delivers superior motion control, and the best transport package ever designed for a self-erecting crane. It can be erected in 16 different configurations, which is unique to this category of self-erecting cranes and enables it to be easily adapted for a range of jobsite applications.
Often deployed to build low-rise apartment and commercial complexes, the 6 t capacity Potain Igo T 85 A is easy to set up and dismantle, and its 45 m swing radius can generally cover all of a siteโs building area. The variable height telescoping lattice mast ranges from 20 โ 38 m.
Falcon Tower Crane Services will handle sales and support services for Potain self-erecting cranes from its base in Shipdham, Norfolk.

Saez luffer marks new product group for BKLโs rental fleet.
German crane rental, sales and service provider BKL, one of Europe's largest full-service providers of crane solutions, has expanded its range of tower cranes available for rent with the Saez SLH 70.4 hydraulic luffer. The addition represents a new product group for BKL. The crane has a minimum radius of four metres making it well suited for city centre work without oversailing. It has 1.35 or 1.70 metre tower variants, meaning it can fit inside narrow lift shafts, if required. It can lift a maximum of four tonnes or 2.1 tonnes at a radius of 35 metres. The crane was showcased on BKLโs stand at Bauma.
Another Saez crane now available to rent from BKL is the larger SLH 205 with a load capacity of up to 10 tonnes. It has a maximum radius of 55 metres and maximum 2.6 tonne tip load. This crane was also on display at Bauma on Saezโs stand. BKL has been the official sales partner for Saez tower cranes since March 2022.
At Bauma BKL also debuted the Industry 4.0-ready CM 350 self erector, manufactured by Italian company Luigi Cattaneo and distributed under the BKL System Cattaneo brand. It is the upgraded version of the established CM 82S4 and CM 300 machines and has a 35-metre radius, a hook height of 23.3 metres, and a maximum load capacity of four tonnes.
BKL has worked with manufacturer since 1994 and is the exclusive distributor of six types of its cranes, with radii from 22 to 41 metres, under the BKL System Cattaneo brand.
BKL has also extended its range of mobile cranes with the addition of the new Manitowoc GMK 5150XL, which could be seen on Manitowocโs stand at Bauma. The 150 tonne capacity crane has a 68.7-metre telescopic boom and a maximum lifting height of 93 metres and will form part of BKLโs Frankfurt mobile crane fleet.
