In a carefully orchestrated operation, a crane with a 120-meter boom was brought in to replace chiller units atop the Kastor tower. The operation, executed by crane and heavy haulage contractor Eisele AG, required precise planning and execution. Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage, a main road in Frankfurt, had to be fully closed to accommodate the crane’s setup. The LTM 1650-8.1 crane, assembled in a T3YV2EN configuration with 150 tonnes of ballast and a 77-meter luffing jib, began its work at 23:00 on a Friday evening. Challenges arose due to the presence of an underground railway line beneath the crane site, limiting support pressure to two tonnes per square meter. A combination of steel plates and bongossi timbers was employed to distribute the load effectively. The lifting operation commenced at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, with the crane extending its boom to 51 meters to reach the required height of 120 meters. The task involved removing old chillers from the 95-meter-high Kastor tower and installing new units to modernize the building’s air conditioning system, completed in 1997. Despite the complexity, all work had to be finished by Sunday to reopen the road for Monday morning traffic. DP World Antwerp Gateway Welcomes Three New Quay Cranes READ YOUR FREE COPY HERE: https://moveitmagazine.com/2023/04/14/dp-world-antwerp-gateway-new-cranes/ DP World Antwerp Gateway has reached a new milestone in its ambitious expansion and modernisation plan with the arrival of three new quay cranes. These cranes, capable of handling up to 26 container rows on a ship, were constructed by ZPMC and join the existing fleet of 10 cranes at the DP World terminal located on the eastern side of the Deurganck dock. The investment in these new cranes is part of DP World’s €200 million plan to modernise, expand and make the terminal more sustainable, which was initiated in 2019 and supported by the European Commission. The ultimate goal is to offer customers efficient, resilient and sustainable solutions. Dirk Van den Bosch, CEO of DP World Antwerp Gateway, expressed his belief in Antwerp’s position as a global trade hub and gateway to Europe, and the company’s commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of the port and making it the engine of the Belgian economy. He stated that the new cranes will enable the terminal to handle projected volume growth in the years ahead and consolidate its position as one of Europe’s top ports. Jef Lambregts, Expansion Project Manager, added that the terminal has already seen significant improvements since the investment program started in 2019, with the delivery of a new operational building and two automatic stacker crane modules. In addition to the three new cranes, three new automatic modules will be commissioned this year, and two more quay cranes will be added next year to bring the total to 15 ship-to-shore (STS) cranes. DP World is constantly investing in advanced equipment to increase its capacity for enhanced international trade flows. Rolling one crane from the ship to the rail tracks on the dock side takes approximately four to six hours via a special footbridge. The unloading process is precarious and must be done in perfect conditions such as weather, visibility, wind and water level, and takes about a week. After this, the cranes will be connected to the high voltage grid, the movements will be adjusted, and the container registration system will be installed to commission the cranes by the summer. The crane park at DP World Antwerp Gateway is capable of handling the largest container ships in the world, which can transport up to 24,000 containers (TEU). The latest cranes can handle up to 26 container rows on a ship, which is one row more than the current generation of container vessels. DP World’s investment in modernisation, expansion and sustainability will enable it to offer customers industry-leading efficient, resilient and sustainable solutions. The new cranes, which have a lifting capacity ranging from 110 to 700 tonnes and an additional 27 cranes already on order, are helping the Middle Eastern crane and heavy transport company to continue expanding. The 24 cranes delivered to Al Faris include four LTM 1500-8.1s, which are the last production units of its most successful large crane. With a total of 15 machines, Al Faris now operates the world’s largest fleet of Liebherr 500-tonne cranes. “The LTM 1500-8.1 is my absolute favourite crane from Ehingen,” says Hillary Pinto, the company’s managing partner. The package of cranes also includes its upgraded model, the LTM 1650-8.1, which boasts increased power with a maximum lifting capacity of 700 tonnes and features the latest technology such as VarioBallast and VarioBase variable supporting base. Additionally, Al Faris has received its first LTM 1300-6.3, a 300-tonne crane on six axles and one of Liebherr’s latest mobile cranes with a 90-meter telescopic boom. At the Bauma trade fair in Munich in October, Al Faris placed an order for an additional 27 cranes from Liebherr, some of which will be delivered this year and some in the next. The new order includes six more LTM 1300-6.3s. Keonne Pinto, also an Al Faris shareholder, explains: “The concept of the LTM 1300-6.3 with its 90-metre telescopic boom combined with compact dimensions is perfect for universal operations here in the Middle East, especially in the energy sector. Dogger Bank Wind Farm is a joint venture between SSE Renewables, Equinor and Vårgrønn. Mammoet will employ multiple lifting and transport crews for simultaneous operations to support with the loading of equipment and tower assembly in the marshalling harbor, a key piece in constructing the project. The team will utilize cranes and self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) axles at Able Seaton Port, the Dogger Bank Wind Farm marshalling harbor. GE will start preparing the marshalling harbor and receiving components at the end of 2022. Nathan Fahey, GE Project Director for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, said, “We are delighted to announce that we have selected Mammoet UK as our cranes and logistics supplier for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm. The cranes and associated equipment the company will provide and operate for us will be essential to the smooth operation of our marshalling harbor on Teesside, where 277 sets of blades, nacelles and towers of our Haliade-X wind turbines will be erected and transit over the course of the project. Next year we will accomplish 20 years as dealers. Surely we will reach 100 machines sold (actually we are very close). Next photo is from the best dealer award year 2013, when we sold 22 MMUSD that year. Superb archivement for a Latinamerican company.
